For many potential student nurses, a scholarship can make a critical difference in turning their nursing career aspirations into realities. For Desmond Atem, a nursing student at Indiana University, South Bend, School of Nursing in South Bend, Ind., receiving a nursing scholarship from the Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association (FNSNA) meant that he was able to take full advantage of his nursing education.

“Scholarships have made it possible for me to attend and stay in college, pursuing the profession of my dreams,” said Atem. “As a result of my scholarships, I am currently on track to graduate in May 2018 debt-free. Scholarships have changed the trajectory of my life and career.”

Donate a Photo: Turn Your Photos into Scholarships

Take a photo, make an impact. For every photo you share through the free Donate a Photo app, Johnson & Johnson will give $1 to the FNSNA to help fund 50 nursing school scholarships. For every 1,000 photos donated, a student will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship for nursing school. Your pictures can make a positive difference for future nursing students.

Here’s how to get involved:

1)    Download the Donate a Photo app: The app is available for free from the iTunes store and on Google Play.

2)    Pick a cause: Select “One photo helps send a student to nursing school” with the FNSNA.

3)    Pick a photo: Any photo! It can be of your pet, a selfie or even a pet selfie.

4)    Share on the app: Share your photo in the app and Johnson & Johnson gives $1 to your cause. Then share it on your social media channels to get your friends in on the good.

Johnson & Johnson has curated a list of trusted causes, and you can donate a photo to one cause, once a day. Each cause will appear in the app until it reaches its goal, or the donation period ends. If the goal isn't reached, the cause will still get a minimum donation. Learn more on www.DonateAPhoto.com.

Charity Miles: Run, walk or bike for student nurses. Turn those miles into scholarships.

Another way to support FNSNA scholarships is by tracking your daily activity. Did you know that, according to a studypublished in The Permanente Journal, the average medical-surgical nurse walks anywhere from four to five miles during a 12-hour shift? Support the next generation of nurses with every step you take using the free CharityMiles app, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson.

With every mile you log (walking, running or biking) you can help support student nursing scholarships through the FNSNA.  Just launch the app, choose a charity and either walk, run or bike. The selected charity then earns money for every mile covered.  Walkers and runners earn 25¢ per mile; bikers earn 10¢ per mile.
